MARIE ELIZABETH
Marie Elizabeth Walker, 21 this July. Educated, strong leo heart and soul. Always progressing. Ive been singing since the age of 2 & I started rapping about a year and a half, two years ago. I don't consider myself to be a rapper nor singer; more of an Artist or MC because I do it for the passion; not payment... I hate for people to categorize me or my music; because I view myself to be a "visionary". Majority of my songs are acapella (no music). I do a lot of my music this way because it seems so much more genuine to me. I also make very short songs, almost interludes because I love knowing that when that 1min 30sec song is over, my listeners want more. I do all my own recording mixing and everything myself because other people don't quit understand my visions, they only understand the end result. Plus I feel as thought you get all of me; not mastered and processed me... Every original song Ive written has been by myself & are all about people; probably ones you know lol. Rawk & D were the ones who got me into the whole idea of "rapping" because I never intended on being one. With that being said, I grew up listening to 50's and 60's music with my grandparents and 90's greats & Gospel favorites with my Mother. I have a very musical family to whom I am the only child of. Both my parents sing & got me in the church pretty early. Thank God! But honestly my artistry is all i know. I try and leave a small piece of my soul in everything I do so listeners can say "I feel her." My style is just that, Mine! My dress is me. My influences include MJ, Prince, Commissioned, The Clark Sister, Aaliyah, Donny Hathaway, Queen Latifah, Lauren Hill, Anita Baker, Evelyn Champagne King, Ryan Leslie, The 4tops, Mc Lyte, Tupac, Nas, Common (when he was Common Sense) Biggie, Lalah Hathaway, Phil Collins, The Doors & more. I'm a lover of all music. Im also a helper, over-thinker, & philanthropist. I'm currently working on my mixtape entitled "myxtvpe" which I plan on releasing in the upcoming weeks to come. With no singing lessons, a lyrical mind, & God given talent; I plan on showing our generation what GOOD music really is! WHEN DID YOU REALIZE MUSIC IS WHAT YOU WANTED TO DO AS A CAREER?
Marie: I've never really looked at as music as a possible career, I've always been more of a realist. I've always had a plan b & c because there is alot of amazing talent that goes unrecognized in this world. So if music takes me somewhere then that's great but I'm not putting all my eggs in one basket; if it's not in Gods will for me to be famous for singing, I've already prepared for other things, because I am going to be successful no matter what I end up doing.
WHO WOULD BE YOUR DREAM TOUR COLLABORATION?
Marie: Any! lol But seriously, Id have to say id do a kinda "New Old Skool Tour" consisting of Frank Ocean, J Cole, Janelle Monae, Pro Era, Drizzy Wright & Myself.
WHAT HIGHLIGHT MOMENT HAVE YOU HAD SINCE YOU'VE BEEN SINGING?
Marie: Every moment I get to share my music or my talent is a highlight to me. I thank the Lord for every moment I get to showcase what hes blessed me with. Each one a blessings.
WHAT REACTION DO YOU GET FROM FANS WHEN SHOWCASING THE NEW STUFF?
Marie: it's always nothing but love! ill post a new track on soundcloud, put the link on twitter and Facebook then I get off the Internet for the rest of the day. I try not to wait around for feedback. But once I do check back, it's always positive!
AS AN ENTERTAINER ARE YOU PRESSURED BY THE EXPECTATION'S OF THE MUSIC INDUSTRY?
Marie: naturally there is some pressure but I feel that is more from my end then anyone else's...ill always be my worst critic. But there are standards that need to be met. I'm pressured by my morals n goals to exceed said standards, because nobody controls my talent nor capabilities but me & God.
WHAT IS A STUDIO SESSION WITH MARIE ELIZABETH LIKE?
Marie: 99% of the time im by myself while recording but it's a very light hearted atmosphere. ofcourse I'm focused but nothing to serious... I feel like that kills the fun of the music making process. to serious; you over think..then you over do!
IF YOU COULD SAY SOMETHING TO UPCOMING FEMALE ARTIST LIKE YOURSELF WHAT WOULD IT BE?
Marie: Get to know who and what God made you to be. Once you get to know her; fall inlove with her! Because if you come into this business not knowing who you are; they'll never allow you to find out...!
